Hallock "Hal" N. Mohler Jr.

Mr. Hal Mohler enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1980 and completed recruit training at the Recruiting Training Command in Great Lakes, IL. He earned his commission as an Ensign in 1995 through the Limited Duty/Chief Warrant Officer Program and transferred into the Human Resources community in 2010.
 

Mr. Mohler’s sea tours include assignments aboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), USS WISCONSIN (BB 64), Carrier Strike Group EIGHT, and Administrative Officer in USS INCHON (MCS 12), USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69), and USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77).

His shore tours include Navy Recruiting District New Jersey; the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Supreme Allied Command Atlantic; Officer-in-Charge, Personnel Support Activity Detachment Bangor, WA; Administrative Officer, Naval Support Activity Norfolk, VA; Commander, Navy Recruiting Command Liaison Officer to OPNAV N1; and as Navy Recruiting Commands Director for Training and Quality Assurance.

Mr. Mohler served as the Flag Secretary for Commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, and Commander, U.S. Central Command. He has also deployed as the J1 for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Transatlantic Division, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Mr. Mohler’s command tour was as Executive Officer then Commanding Officer, Navy Recruiting District Richmond, VA. On May 15, 2017, Mr. Mohler was appointed as the Department of Defense Executive Secretary by Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis and served in the position until May 22, 2019. Mr. Mohler’s final tour in the Navy was as the Chief of Staff, U.S. SECOND Fleet and Director of Management, Joint Force Command Norfolk.

After serving for more than 41 years of consecutive active duty in the United States Navy, Mr. Mohler retired on September 1, 2021.  On February 28, 2022, he assumed the duties as the Executive Director, Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center.


Mr. Mohler holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, a Master of Science Degree in Education from Old Dominion University, and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Saint Leo University. Lastly, Mr. Mohler is a member of the Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Old Dominion University chapter.

Mr. Mohler has received various personal decorations and campaign awards including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and a Combat Action Ribbon.
