The Naval Safety Command mission is to preserve warfighting capability, combat lethality and readiness.

Mishaps take a toll on our military defense and diminish our readiness costing us time and resources; damaging equipment and posing harm to our Sailors, Marines and civilians. At the Naval Safety Command, we feel it is critical to deliver relevant, interesting and useful content helping the Department of the Navy's mishap prevention and overall safety efforts.

Naval Safety Command Public Affairs Department creates several publications and products to communicate key mission objectives supporting fleet operational priorities.

Approach magazine is written “by aviators for aviators” across the Navy and Marine Corps. Article jargon and supporting information is often written in conversation style to facilitate discssions across ready rooms to support risk management across the Department of the Navy. Since 1955 the lessons learned articles by naval aviators in Approach magazine have played a crucial role in improving safety culture, ensuring safe operations and maintaining readiness.

MECH magazine provides stories, information, procedures and most of all, a place to raise safety awareness among our aviation maintainers. The safety information and risk awareness articles in MECH are credited as a critical part of a continually improving safety program in naval aviation. Since 1961 MECH has been the aviation maintenance safety magazine for the Navy and Marine Corps. With inputs from the fleet, Naval Safety Command staff and subject matter experts, MECH helps keep the aircraft mission ready and flying.

Ground Warrior magazine is a forum where Marines and Sailors can share safety-related experiences, thereby providing valuable lessons learned to others within the community. Input from the fleet is crucial in improving safety culture, conducting safe operations, and thus, maintaining readiness. Ground Warrior is published jointly between the Commandant of the Marine Corps Safety Division and the Naval Safety Command.
