Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning! I trust this tri-weekly update finds you well. In this biweekly update, I would like to provide an update on the upcoming professional development symposium, course prerequisites reminder, and quota updates.  As always, attached is our latest CHRON/Course Schedule as well as the latest no-show listing.

Professional Development Symposium: Registration is now open for the 33rd Annual Joint Safety and Environmental Professional Development Symposium (PDS), scheduled for April 21–25, 2025. This fully virtual event provides a unique opportunity to engage with Department of Defense professionals, expand your knowledge, and explore the latest trends in safety, occupational health, and environmental protection. The PDS is open to participants with a .mil, .gov, or .edu email address. The event is entirely online and offered at no cost to attendees. Register here: http://jointpds.adobeconnect.com/pds2025registration/event/registration.html.

Course Prerequisites Reminder: Prior to registering for a course please ensure you have proof of the course prerequisites.

  • Rank: Update your eNTRS profile to ensure your rank is correct. If your profile states a rank below the prerequisites, your request will be disapproved.
  • Refresher Courses: Prior to requesting a refresher course, please ensure you have completed the initial course. Can’t remember? Check out your FLTPMS training jacket.
  • 2nd Class Swimmer Qual: Our FRT courses require students to complete an on water practical exercise.  Per the Navy SORM’s Boat Bill Chapter 6 and CNIC M-3500.1 Chapter 3, all personnel attending must provide proof they hold the 2nd Class Swimmer qualification.  Furthermore, per CNIC M-3500.1 Chapter 3, DoD civilians and contractors will qualify as a Navy Second Class Swimmer or obtain and maintain the current USCG approved STCW-95 BST equivalent. Proof of qualification, military, civilians, and contractors alike must be current and proof of qualification must be provided during course check in. If not provided, student will not be able to complete all course requirements of the FRT first responders’ course and therefore will attend the FRT Onshore Oil Spill Response Member course which occurs concurrently with the FRT first responders course.  More information may be found in the Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center Course Catalog, which is attached.

Quota Updates:

  • Quotas Release: FY25 QTR 4 quotas will be released on 2 April 2025. All quotas must be reserved via eNTRS (https://app.prod.cetars.training.navy.mil/eNTRS/).  To request a quota, log into eNTRS> Request Menu> enter course CDP> update the dates> submit> check the course date> enter the students DOD ID> submit> add student info> double check email is correct> select process request.
  • No Shows: As of 14 March 2025, 826 no-show students have taken seats from other students. A list of commands with five or more no-shows is listed below. Please help us address the number of no-show students. To view the complete list, open FY25 No Show Data Report > Select FY25 No Show tab> Sort by Activity Name.

Low Enrollment: As discussed during the NERTP Steering Committee meeting on 13 March, courses with low enrollment may face cancellation:

  • Environmental courses require a minimum of 10 students enrolled 34 days prior to the course start date.
  • Safety courses require a minimum of 5 students enrolled 34 days prior to the course start date.

Starting 31 March 2024, all courses that that still have fewer than 10 students enrolled (Environmental) and 5 students enrolled (Safety) 34 calendar days prior to the course start date will be cancelled.

NOTE:  For the Environmental courses’ quota requests, Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center has only three (3) Education and Training Technicians, through Safety labor funds, and no funded allocated Education and Technicians funded by Environmental Labor funds.  Therefore, roster processing, in lieu of using eNTRS, may take up to 4 days to complete for the Environmental courses.  However, eNTRS remains the preferred method for submissions of quotas.  Given the 30 day log in requirement for eNTRS access, it must be noted that password resets take 24/48 hours and as such, with 4th quarter quotas becoming available on 2 April, it’s recommended that anyone requiring a quota in the 4th quarter submit a password reset now, if needed, to ensure timely access to eNTRS for quotas submission when they open.
